Crossroads History - Birthday
Our History

The Crossroads story began in 1980, when three families moved to Europe from the US with the dream to plant an English speaking church in the Geneva area. After initially meeting in homes, the congregation settled into an old furniture warehouse in Ferney-Voltaire, on the French side of the border.

In 1998, a local businessman approached Crossroads staff and offered to build a new church for the growing community in exchange for its property. The businessman got his warehouse. Crossroads got its church building.

One of the great moments in Crossroads’ history was the historic march from the old warehouse across to the new building God had provided. Since then the building has been home to one of the most diverse congregations in the world. Weekly, it has been filled with people from across the globe who come into contact with the grace of God – because of the vision and faith of those who have gone before.

2012 was another pivotal moment with the planting of a second Crossroads church which is now located in Thoiry – a key location on the French side of the border with its proximity to CERN, rapid transport routes to Geneva and the site of the new International Lycée (high school) serving the a wide area.

Each of the original three pastors, Linus Morris, Gary Edmonds and Chris Hall, have continued on in various Christian leadership roles around the world.

Many gifted leaders have followed in their footsteps:

Jim Longhurst served as pastor with his wife Jean from 1994 to 2004. Jim is currently a pastor at the Medway Village church in Massachussets, USA.

Ian Coffey served as pastor with his wife Ruth who worked as pastoral co-ordinator from 2004 to 2007. Ian serves as a vice principal and director of leadership training at Moorlands Bible College in the South of England as well as maintaining a busy speaking schedule.

Larry and Lisa Lloyd and their four boys came from the Chicago area in 2002. Larry served as youth and worship pastor from 2002 to 2008 until his appointment in June 2008 as senior pastor. The boys are now grown up and stretching their wings in 4 different countries around the world.

Justus Heyman joined the team in 2009 accompanied by his wife Samantha and their three children. Serving initially as pastor to the youth and 20s-30s groups at Crossroads Ferney, he is now the lead pastor at Crossroads Thoiry which was planted in 2012. And most recently, James Tetley was appointed as Associate Pastor at Crossroads Ferney accompanied by his wife Jayne and their 4 children.
